MOE Academic Research Funding (AcRF) Tier 2
The MOE Academic Research Fund (AcRF) Grant funds research projects on a competitive basis across Singapore-based universities. The MOE Tier 2 grant scheme is the premium investigator-led for academic research.
Each grant proposal submitted should have a total project value (TPV) between $500,000 and $1 million over a three - year duration. For projects under the Accountancy, Business, Humanities and Social Sciences discipline cluster (EP4) with TPV of $100,000 and above are eligible for funding under AcRF Tier 2.

MOE Academic Research Funding (AcRF) Tier 3
The AcRF Tier 3 programme-level funding scheme will enable high impact, multidisciplinary research performed at the universities to be carried out in a comprehensive and organized manner. It will allow
the emergence of game-changing science by bringing together collaborative teams of experts to develop integrated solutions to scientific issues.
The following are pertinent information about the Tier 3 programme:
- Full time academic faculty of NTU and those who are in the process of joining NTU are eligible to apply as PI;
- The Tier 3 funding scheme to enable high impact, multi-disciplinary research at universities to be carried out in a comprehensive and organized manner.
- There are 2 categories of awards in Tier 3:
- Funding for Type A Tier 3 programme: funding quantum of $5 to $10 million over 5 years
- Funding for Type B Tier 3 programme: funding quantum of $10 to $25 million over 5 years
- Organisation of project team: Led by Lead PI who will oversee senior PIs and PIs
- Funding for EOM of research staff and PhD students (number of students supported restricted by MOE)
- Application process: 2 stages: White Paper (6 pages) and Full Proposal for shortlisted PIs
- Number of submissions by NTU restricted by MOE to 8 White Papers

College (COHASS) Incentive Scheme [Deadline: Friday, 7 June 2013]
The scheme was first introduced by CoHASS in April 2011 to encourage more Tier-2, Tier-3 and external grant applications. The scheme provides seed-funding support that is needed to develop the external grant proposal and is open to all HASS full-time faculty for a grant up to S$5,000. Please refer to the recent email circular below for more information.

HSS Start Up Grant (SUG)
The HSS-SUG is funded by the Provost and the maximum grant applicable to Humanities and Social Sciences research project is now capped at $35,000, unless other agreements have been made contractually. The grant is to enable newly joined academic staff to undertake preliminary research activities. Full-time, tenure-track faculty who joined NTU no later than half a year from the date of submission is eligible to apply.
Important Note
- Divisions should inform new incoming faculty of their SUG eligibility once they confirmed their appointments and advise them to submit their proposal before they assume duty. This would ensure that new faculty colleagues will be able to pursue their research as soon as they start work at HASS.
- SUG are awarded once, on an individual basis, normally within the first six months of the faculty’s employment. The upper limit of the SUG is $35,000, unless other agreements have been made contractually.

New Silk Road Seek Grant Scheme
The New Silk Road (NSR) initiative seeks to promote interdisciplinary research on Global Asia, capitalizing on NTU’s and Singapore’s comparative advantage as a knowledge hub where Asia and the West come together in addressing the global challenges confronting the world today. To that end, subject to availability of funds, small seed grants will be made available to support projects relating to NSR, understood concretely as Asian Studies in Global Perspectives.

MCYS - Family Research Fund (FRF)
The FRF funds research on family trends and issues in Singapore. The supported research should preferably inform on family policies in Singapore. Please refer to the Family Research Agenda and the focused research topics for examples of the relevant family research issues. The latter aims to complement the ground-up approach to the FRF. Applicants seeking funding can choose to develop their research proposals based on these focused topics. Applications submitted for the focused research topics will be assigned similar priority as relevant research topics proposed by researchers.

MDA Academic Engagement Programme
The Academic Engagement Programme (AEP) is a new initiative launched by the Media Development Authority, aimed at supporting media-related research projects by undergraduates, postgraduates and academics.
MDA is open to any media-related research proposals, including topics such as:
• measurement/predictive models for economic performance of the media sector;
• development of the media sector;
• economic and social impact analyses;
• effectiveness of regulatory or industry development measures;
• media convergence and implications on economy, society and regulators;
• media literacy; and
• media consumption.
The AEP is targeted at undergraduates and postgraduates who are pursuing media-related courses, as well as academics specialising in media-related subjects and/or have a strong interest in deepening the research base on media-related issues, based in local tertiary institutions and research think tanks. The maximum grant available for postgraduate and academic projects is S$100,000 for up to 3 years, while undergraduate projects can be funded up to S$1,000 over a period of 1 year.
